Some Questions and Ideas

What values do design, art and craft embody for you and others? What values and priorities do the Future Generations themes represent? What is beauty? How to persuade through narrative and beauty? What are the commonalities in our team? What are our talents and strengths? Who are the storytellers? expressers? translators? inventors? Alchemists? Who values skill/craftsmanship? Who puts ideas above all else? Do I work for myself, others or both? Do I prefer to work with others? What are our shared priorities and beliefs as a team? What matters to us?

Within our group, Me a ceramicist, Larissa Stupar a graphic designer and Jessica Roach studying Architectural Design & Technology, there is a good mix of skills and is interesting what everyone can bring to the table.

We been discussing what makes a good piece of art and what makes a good design and with this discussion we had similar ideologies. Communication, meaning, beauty, concept, context, ideas, materiality. Me as a ceramicist, I value some stuff more than other, and here is a list of a few:

  • Beauty/Aesthetics
  • Functionality/ Un-functionality
  • Process
  • Experimental
  • Developmental
  • Innovation
  • Purpose

In additional we started to talk about what concerned us and some of our priorities concerning future generations and we brain stormed a few ideas from recycling and how could that impact us in the future. We ended up with the idea of how could we light a path using renewable energy or using pressure or perhaps a dynamo the same they use on bikes to power their lights and how could this benefit our community, our future generations.
